Monday Nights at Bushido: A Powerful Start to Your Week

July 27, 20252 min read

Monday evenings at Bushido Martial Arts are where focus, discipline, and energy come together to start the week strong. Whether you're a beginner or progressing through the ranks, these sessions offer structured, high-quality martial arts training in a welcoming and disciplined environment.

🕕 18:00 – Warm-Up & Conditioning

The evening kicks off with a 20–30 minute dynamic warm-up designed to improve fitness, flexibility, and focus. This part of the class prepares students physically and mentally for the training ahead, helping to reduce injury risk and build stamina.

🥋 18:30 – Core Martial Arts: Jiu-Jitsu & Freestyle Karate

Following the warm-up, we move into our core martial arts training:

  • Japanese Jiu-Jitsu – focusing on throws, joint locks, and real-world self-defence.

  • Freestyle Karate – a striking art that blends traditional techniques with modern movement and combinations.

While both are taught in a non-contact format, Bushido places a strong emphasis on real-life application. When students partner up, they’re encouraged to understand the purpose behind each technique—how it would be used in a real-world situation, not just in the dojo. This approach helps build confidence, awareness, and a genuine sense of capability.

These sessions run until 19:00, providing a solid hour of technical skill development, control, and discipline.

🥢 19:00 – Weapons or Kickboxing: Choose Your Path

After the core class, students can choose between two specialist sessions:

🔹 Traditional Weapons – Bo Staff

A dedicated class focusing on the Bo Staff, a traditional martial arts weapon that’s become one of Bushido’s strengths in recent tournaments. This session improves coordination, control, and performance, offering something a little different to enhance a student’s martial arts journey.

🔹 Kickboxing & Fitness

Alternatively, students can join a high-energy kickboxing session that combines striking technique with cardio and strength training. It’s a brilliant way to boost endurance and sharpen movement while getting a great workout.

🕗 20:00 – Finish & Lock-Up

Classes finish at 20:00, with students leaving stronger, sharper, and more focused than when they arrived.

Senior Instructor Atticus Mills, who opens the dojo at the start of the evening, also locks up at the end—ensuring every Monday is run with care, consistency, and commitment to high standards.

Why Monday Nights Matter at Bushido

Monday night sessions are designed to set the tone for the week. With a strong mix of traditional and modern martial arts, practical self-defence training, and optional specialisms, students gain more than just skills—they build confidence, discipline, and lasting progress.

If you're looking to train in an environment that balances safety, tradition, and real-world readiness—Monday night at Bushido is the place to be.
