Bushido Martial Arts Association

About Us

At Bushido Martial Arts, we’re committed to helping our students grow – not just as martial artists, but as individuals.

Rooted in the values of respect, discipline, and perseverance, our training goes beyond techniques. We focus on building confidence, character, and a strong work ethic that carries through into everyday life – at school, at work, and in the wider community.

Bushido is a place where people of all ages can challenge themselves, progress at their own pace, and be part of something positive. Many families choose to train together, finding that it not only supports individual growth but also strengthens bonds, encourages shared goals, and creates quality time away from screens and distractions.

Whether you're just starting out or returning to training, our goal is simple: to help you become stronger, more focused, and more confident – one step at a time.

Freestyle Karate – combining striking, movement, and self-defence in a dynamic and accessible format

Japanese Jiu-Jitsu – focusing on close-quarters self-defence, joint locks, throws, and control techniques

Traditional weapons – including bō staff, bokken (wooden sword), and nunchaku

Kickboxing – high-energy striking classes to improve fitness, technique, and power

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What Martial Arts styles do you offer?

At Bushido Martial Arts, we specialise in a well-rounded approach to traditional and modern martial arts. Our core disciplines are Freestyle Karate and Japanese Jiu-Jitsu – two complementary systems that combine striking, movement, self-defence, and grappling techniques.

We also offer additional training in traditional weapons (such as bō staff, sword, and nunchaku) and kickboxing for students looking to expand their skills or challenge themselves further.

With years of experience and a team of highly qualified instructors, we’ve developed a structured, progressive syllabus that builds real-world skills while promoting confidence, focus, and personal discipline. Whether you're a complete beginner or have previous experience, you’ll be learning in an environment that’s supportive, professional, and rooted in martial arts values.

Q: How much is it to train at Bushido Martial Arts?

A: Our pricing is simple and great value for the quality of training we offer.

Our evening classes on Mondays and Thursdays (18:00–20:00) are just £5 per hour per student. These structured sessions are ideal for regular training, with expert instruction in a supportive environment.

Our Saturday training (11:00–16:30) is £20 per student for the full day. For families, we offer a fantastic discount: if at least four family members train together on a Saturday, one of them trains for free.

For example, if a family of four attends on Saturday, you’ll only pay for three students — a saving of £20.

Q: Can Martial Arts help with stress and mental wellness?

A: Absolutely. At Bushido Martial Arts, we’ve seen first-hand how consistent martial arts training can have a powerful positive impact on mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Our classes are designed to develop focus, resilience, and self-discipline – all of which are key tools in managing stress. The physical activity helps release built-up tension, while the structured routines and goal-setting provide a healthy sense of progress and purpose.

Many of our students, both adults and children, tell us they feel calmer, more confident, and better equipped to deal with everyday pressures after training. We understand that mental wellness is just as important as physical fitness, and we take pride in creating a supportive, respectful environment where everyone can thrive.

With years of experience helping students build not just strength, but self-belief, you can trust Bushido to support your journey – both on and off the mat.

Q: Do I need any special equipment to start?

For most beginners, comfortable workout clothes are sufficient. As you progress, we will provide guidance on any additional equipment, such as uniforms or protective gear, that may be needed.
