Saturdays at Bushido Martial Arts: Our Ultimate Training Session
If you're serious about martial arts or looking for the most complete training experience we offer, Saturday at Bushido Martial Arts is the day to show up, train hard, and get the most out of your journey.
This is our longest and most varied session of the week, combining physical conditioning, core martial arts disciplines, and optional specialist classes—led by Chief Instructor Paul Powell, who opens up the dojo and prepares the space for a full day of skill-building, sweat, and community.
🕧 12:30 – Dojo Opens & Warm-Up Begins
The session begins at 12:30, with Paul Powell setting up the dojo and welcoming students for the day’s training.
We kick off with a 20–30 minute full-body warm-up that pushes every student to get their body and mind ready for what’s ahead. This isn't your average stretch—expect a mix of:
Bodyweight exercises like push-ups, squats, and sit-ups
Dynamic mobility and movement drills
And yes—a solid 10-minute run to get the heart pumping and sharpen mental focus
This conditioning routine not only prepares students physically—it builds strength, stamina, and discipline.
🥋 13:00 – Our Core Martial Arts: Freestyle Karate & Japanese Jiu-Jitsu
After the warm-up, we move into the core of our Bushido training system:
Freestyle Karate – mostly non-contact, modern striking, combinations, movement, and control
Japanese Jiu-Jitsu – full contact self-defence, throws, joint locks, strangle escapes and real-world applications
These disciplines run side-by-side, with students training under structured guidance in both striking and grappling arts. This session runs until 14:30, with plenty of technical practice, partner drills, and belt-level progression.
🥪 14:30 – Break for Lunch
At 14:30, the whole group takes a well-earned break. Students are encouraged to bring a packed lunch or light snack, and we all sit down together. This shared downtime is more than just a break—it builds community, encourages friendships, and gives everyone a moment to recharge before the second half of the day.
🥊 15:00 – Specialist Training Options Begin
From 15:00, students can choose from a variety of focused training options, depending on their level, goals, and interests. These include:
Kickboxing (Pads or Sparring) – build power, timing, and real-world striking fluency
Weapons Kata Class – focus on traditional weapon forms and precision techniques
Black Belt Class – advanced material, grading prep, leadership training
Continuation of Core Martial Arts – for those wanting more time in Karate or Jiu-Jitsu
This part of the session offers the most flexibility and depth, giving students the chance to develop new skills or refine their existing strengths in a supportive, well-structured environment.
🕟 16:30 – Class Ends
The full Saturday session concludes at 16:30, making it the longest and most comprehensive training day at Bushido. Students leave feeling accomplished, energised, and one step closer to their martial arts goals.
Why We Recommend the Full Day
Saturday is our most in-depth training session of the week—and we strongly recommend that students stay for the full day (12:30 to 16:30) if they’re serious about progressing.
You’ll benefit from full-body conditioning
You’ll get extended technical time in both of our core martial arts
You’ll enjoy the social aspect of shared lunch and dojo camaraderie
And you’ll have access to specialist classes that only run on Saturdays
This is where students truly level up—whether working toward a new belt, building confidence, or preparing for competition.
